Oven and Hob Repairs

Roast

Repairing your oven or hob is much cheaper and convenient than replacing it. Give me a call and I’ll book you in for a callout to diagnose any problem with your oven or hob.

Model and serial numbers

Ovens and Hobs are items where I will most often need to come to site in advance of knowing the model. But if you can find the serial sticker and send me a photo that would be great.

On wall ovens and some ranges the sticker is usually on the frame behind the door. They can be at the top, side or bottom. But most ranges have the sticker on the back.

Built in hobs always have their sticker on the bottom. Sometimes their underside is exposed inside a cupboard but it’s rare.

If you can find a serial plate on your machine it may mean I can order your parts before coming to site to save you money. Send me a photo of the serial sticker if you can find it.

Common Issues with Ovens

Not reaching temperature: If your oven is not reaching temperature the most likely cause is a broken element. But this could also be caused by the door being ajar, a bad door seal or a faulty thermostat.

Elements not turning off: This will likely mean your food is burning. For minor burning this can be caused by a bad door seal or hinges. For major burning the function selector or the thermostat may have fused contacts!

Not Working at all: If it’s dead completely it may have tripped it’s temperature safety overload, perhaps because the internal cooling fan has seized.

Common Issues with Hobs

The most common complaint with conventional hobs is that one of the hot plates is raging. This is always because the regulator contacts have fused. Replace the regulator and you’re good to go.

Modern induction hobs are great until the day the internal cooling fan fails and the control circuit overheats.
